Read My Lips Begins - Chiang Mai, Thailand

Read My Lips is a cross-cultural project bringing together two Northern Territory artists, Gail Evans and Nicky Fearn with Thai company Wandering Moon Performing Group to create a new theatre work.

This project has grown from Wandering Moon's residency at Corrugated Iron Youth Arts in Darwin in 2011. It was here that Wandering Moon, Gail Evans and Nicky Fearn identified a common interest in theatre-making. As well as complementary artistic skills, all the artists involved are interested in creating work that tells the stories and addresses the issues of the communities in which they live.

For 5 weeks in January/February 2014 the artists will work intensively together in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. In this time they will share skills, exchange ideas, engage with local community organisations, attend cultural events and exhibitions, and shape their new work.

The work will use elements such as shadow puppetry, puppetry, physical theatre, mask, and projection to tell the story. This will allow the work to reach out to a broad audience, regardless of language or cultural backgrounds.

At the conclusion of the Thai residency the work in development will be shown in Chiang Mai. This performance will be filmed and then screened at Browns Mart, Darwin in March 2014.

We invite you to join us as we
explore, play, experiment and create
Read My Lips.
